چکیده

IMPORTANCE Dural arteriovenous fistula is a very rare cause of myelitis that can only be treated interventionally or surgically. OBSERVATIONS A man in his 30s with paraparesis and urinary incontinence had a long-segment thoracic lesion on spinal magnetic resonance imaging. Transverse myelitis was the initial diagnosis. Although a pulse steroid and intravenous immunoglobulin treatment regimen was given, no definite clinical response was seen. A spinal angiogram was performed in our center demonstrating right T7 to T8 spinal dural arteriovenous fistula. The fistula was occluded with embolization and the patient showed recovery following the endovascular treatment. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE Myelitis usually is known to respond well to immunosuppressive treatments. Despite adequate medical treatment, if slow progression is seen in the follow-up clinically and radiologically, dural arteriovenous fistulas should be kept in mind in the etiopathogenesis.

Cranial dural arteriovenous fistula as a rare cause of tinnitus – case report

BACKGROUND Tinnitus, occurring at least once in a lifetime in about 10-20% of the population, is an important clinical problem with complex etiology. Rare causes of tinnitus include cranial dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs), which are usually small lesions consisting of abnormal connections between branches of dural arteries and venous sinuses or veins. CASE REPORT Authors present a case o...

Dural arteriovenous fistula as a treatable dementia.

Dementia is a chronic loss of neurocognitive function that is progressive and irreversible. Although rare, dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs) could present with a rapid decline in neurocognitive function with or without Parkinson-like symptoms. DAVFs represent a potentially treatable and reversible cause of dementia. Here, we report the case of an elderly woman diagnosed with a DAVF after pre...

A case of dural arteriovenous fistula with retrograde intracranial venous flow.

PRESENTATION Dural arteriovenous fistulae are relatively rare lesions which can present a variety of different symptoms ranging from tinnitus to devastating intracranial hemorrhage. For those fistulae that require treatment, therapy is available in a wide range of options. We describe the case of a 60-year old patient who presented with a right occipital lesion presumably secondary to a dural a...

Intracranial Dural Arteriovenous Fistula Draining into Spinal Perimedullary Veins: A Rare Cause of Myelopathy

We report a rare case of progressive myelopathy caused by intracranial dural arteriovenous fistula with venous drainage into the spinal perimedullary veins. A 45-yr-old man developed urinary and fecal incontinence and muscle weakness in the lower limbs. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed brainstem edema and dilated veins of the brainstem and spinal cord. Cerebral angiography showed a dural art...
